Thank you, first responders. I'm proud to be a member of the Hundred Club.
The Juniper School, District 9R's charter elementary school, has packaged a lot of energy into its temporary headquarters, and is already bursting at the seams. Teachers use the Montessori method here, and students enjoy the elective classes interspersed throughout the day. Each day starts with a Welcome Hour, inviting parents in to visit while students get ready to learn. An interesting new concept in education.
Bayfield Schools welcomed me to the primary and elementary schools today, both the versions in use now, and the new buildings they will move into next year. The first graders were thoughtful and positive when they told me what laws they want to pass. I visited the gifted and talented class, among others, and saw lots of learning and excitement. I loved meeting with two former Durango High students who now work for the district: Dot Clemens is the HR director and Rita Mingle teaches 5th grade. It was a great day!
